Computerised clothing. Fashion model wears comput- erised smart clothes". This WearASL outfit trans- lates sign language into speech. A camera in the hat monitors the wearer's hand movements. Images are sent to a computer in the backpack which turns the movements into speech & plays it from speakers in the backpack straps. The computer batteries are in the shoe soles. The necklace has a liquid crys- tal display which tells her if the translation function is working properly. Such "smart clothes" can continuously cater for a user's needs and may soon be used widely. The outfit was a collabora- tion between researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA, & fashion designers."
