Micromechanical accelerometer. This tiny acceleration sensor is used in automatic car stability control systems. These systems can sense lateral (sideways) acceleration and independently apply braking to each wheel. They can automatically prevent or arrest skidding where the car is in danger of spinning around. Some systems can also improve the stability of the car when cornering or making sudden manoeuvres.
