Molluscum contagiosum. Light micrograph of a section through the epidermis of the skin of a person suffering from the viral disease molluscum contagiosum. Viral inclusion bodies are seen as clusters of pink cells within a localised thickening of the epidermis. A keratin plug (not seen) forms over the nodule on the surface of the skin. Molluscum contagiosum is most common in children, is usually harmless and clears up in a few months. Secondary bacterial infections can cause complications.
