HIV (Human immunodeficiency virus) causes AIDS by attacking the patient's immune system, causing secondary opportunistic infections which are fatal. Patients with AIDS face the pressures of having both an incurable disease and often rejection from family, friends and society. December 1st is International AIDS Awareness Day.
