Sound meter. Instrument used to measure sound levels in decibels (dBs). The decibel scale is logarithmic, with a 3dB increase equating to a doubling in power and a 10dB increase equating to a doubling in perceived volume. 0dB is the threshold of hearing whilst 130dB is the threshold of pain.
