Aerial roots. This plant, Pachyphytum hookeri, is a succulent plant native to Mexico. The aerial roots (pink) grow downward from a branch of the plant and into the soil below. This effectively widens the area of moisture and nutrients the plant is able to obtain in its arid habitat.
