The first Minotaur 1 rocket launches from the new Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport (MARS) at NASA's Wallops Island, Virginia, facility. It is the first orbital space launch from the island in a generation. Here, the yellow 'banana-peel' thermal insulation rips off the vehicle at liftoff. Onboard are the Tacsat-1 satellite for the US Air Force and GeneSat-1 spacecraft for NASA.
