Terraced fields, Switzerland. These terraces are on a hillside near the Swiss village of Linescio. The use of terracing and stone walls enables cultivation to taken place on steep hillsides that would otherwise be unable to be farmed. At lower centre is a Catholic shrine. The small alpine village of Linescio is in the Valle Maggia, in the Vallemaggia district of the Ticino region of Switzerland.
