Forest lichen and fungus. Cup lichen (Cladonia sp., left) and wolf's udder fungus (Lycogala epidendrum, right), growing on a dead Scots pine tree stump (Pinus sylvestris). Dead wood is often colonised by fungi and lichen that aid the process of decay as the wood is broken down. Photographed in October, in Glenmore Forest, in Cairngorms National Park, in the Highland Region of Scotland.
