Rugged mountain ranges, volcanic rocks and poor, semi-arid vegetation are characteristic of Northern Kenya. Wild sisal (sansevieria) can be seen growing between the lava boulders. The local Samburu and Rendille people use the fibres to make mats as a covering material for their small living quarters in temporary stock camps.
