Ares rockets. Artwork of the Ares rockets that will be used to launch spacecraft as part of NASA's Constellation Program. This program, announced by the US government in 2004, is intended to put astronauts back on the Moon by 2020, and then carry out missions to Mars. The rocket at left is Ares V, the heavy cargo launch vehicle. Ares I (right) will launch the crew in the crew exploration vehicle Orion. The rockets will use a combination of liquid oxygen/hydrogen tanks (orange) and solid-fuel rocket boosters (white). Ares V will be around 100 metres tall. The rockets are named for the Greek god of Mars, and are named insIins and insVins after the Apollo program's Saturn I and Saturn V rockets.
