Photograph of a flowering bud of the field (corn) poppy Papaver rhoeas, showing the exposure of the folded red petals by the upward movement of the protective, cap-like sepals. The field poppy flourishes wild on railway banks, meadows & in poorly sprayed fields. They produce no nectar, but are prolific sources of pollen for bees, which are attracted by the bright colour of the petals. Second in a sequence of five photographs.
