Talc crystal structure, molecular model. Talc is the name for the mineral hydrated magnesium silicate (Mg3Si4O10(OH)2). Silicate ions comprise a central silicon ion (pink) surrounded by four oxygen atoms (red). Magnesium ions are green, and hydroxide ions (OH-) are blue. Talc is the softest mineral on Moh's scale of mineral hardness.
