Pompeii Bomb Damage Repaired -- The house of Epidius Rufus in the ancient roman city of Pompeii, 13 miles south-east of Naples, was completely destroyed by bombing in 1943. It is pictured here after reconstruction with faithful accuracy. The front wall has not been rebuilt, but all the columns have been pieced together and re-erected. Paintings on the walls were, unfortunately, lost. These represented a scene of the Goddess diana with actaeon, and the house was formerly in the eastern corner of the city (VI region) and faces the consular road to the cemetery of the town. June 14, 1948. (Photo by Associated Press Photo).
