Wales, Denbighshire, Ruthin. The four-storey cell block added to Ruthin Old Gaol provided accomodation for up to 100 inmates. It was built in 1865 in response to The Prisons Act and was modelled on Pentonville Prison, London. A brick bell tower looms over rows of small cell windows.
