Willie Whitelaw (William Stephen Ian Whitelaw, 1st Viscount Whitelaw, 1918-1999), Conservative politician and government minister. As a member of the Heath government he became first Secretary of State for Northern Ireland after direct rule was imposed in March 1972, and served in that capacity until late 1973.
