Three-dimensional visualization based on segmented human data of the atlas and axis, the first two cervical vertebrae which form a pivot joint that allows the head to move from side to side. A unique part of the axis is the dens. The dens is a rounded, upward pointing projection which protrudes into the atlas bone to allow unilateral rotation from side to side.
