Imperial Moth (Eacles imperialis) caterpillar in 5th instar feeding on oak. This larva is green but thy can be brown, black, reddish or even orange. Macro shot showing the thoracic legs and various facial features including mouthparts. This species ranges throughout the US and Canada and is primarily found east of the Rocky Mts. The caterpillars feed on a staggering array of trees and shrubs. This caterpillar is feeding on Oak and was photographed in situ in Pennsylvania during the month of July.
