Although the weather over the Bank Holiday favoured the once most popular entertainment , the famous fairground at 'Appy 'Ampstead was a good example of the present trend in public pastimes . Hampstead Heath , always the scene of big crowds during holiday times , bears out the statement made by many of the stall holders - people don't come to the fair nowadays , they are changing their habits . These pictures , taken between 7:30 and 9:30pm on Saturday August 3rd , illustrate the decline of the English Fair . The busiest side fo the business - Housey Housey . Something to win , but as can be seen in the photograph the clientele are of the older generation . 6 August 1957
