Retinal pigment epithelial detachment. Fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) view of the retina in a case of pigment epithelial detachment (PED). This condition occurs when fluid beneath the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) causes detachment (white area at centre). PED is associated with age-related macular degeneration and central serous choroidopathy. It may require drugs and laser therapy. FFA is an imaging technique using the fluorescent dye fluorescein and a specialized camera to image the retina's blood vessels. For an ophthalmoscope view of this retina, see image C025/7663. For another FFA view of this retina, see image C025/7690.
