Apple halves. Kirlian photograph of two halves of an apple (Malus sylvestris) showing the electromagnetic discharge around their edges. The half on the left has had a bite taken out of it. This luminous discharge is the result of high- energy interactions between the fruit and a powerful applied electric field. The apple tree is thought to have originated in South-Eastern Europe, but are now found throughout the world in temperate areas. As a fruit, apples are an good source of vitamins A, E and most of the B-complex vitamins, and also contain the minerals potassium, iron and calcium.
